3M 290 Range SELF ADHESIVE RETROREFLECTIVE STUDS

RECOMMENDED USE

Designed for use in traffic schemes on edge of Carriageway, or as lane markers. Ideally suited to give good performance on all types of bituminous and concrete surface including new and untrafficked.

APPLICATION - NEW UNTRAFFICKED ASPHALT.

The surface to be marked should be clean, dry and free from any loose debris and dust. After pre marking, the road surface should be gently heated to a temperature such as bearable by hand. If through ambient temperatures, the road surface is already this hot, then heating will not be necessary. Remove the release paper on the back of the stud, and then place in position. THE STUD SHOULD BE PRESSED DOWN FIRMLY BY FOOT PRESSURE AND THEN BY THE ACTION OF A SLOW MOVING VEHICLE OVER RUNNING THE FULL WIDTH OF THE STUD. The stud is now ready for exposure to traffic. ON NO ACCOUNT SHOULD THE STUDS BE APPLIED TO WET SURFACES.

APPLICATION - TRAFFICKED ASPHALT/CONCRETE/BITUMINOUS

Surfaces to be marked should be clean, dry and free from any dust and loose debris. For best results after marking, the area where the stud is to be placed, should be coated with suitable Primer, either by brush or spray; ensuring that the area covered is greater then the surface area of the stud. The release paper on the back of the stud should be removed and the stud applied whilst the primer is still tacky. THE STUD SHOULD BE PRESSED DOWN FIRMLY BY FOOT PRESSURE AND THEN BY THE ACTION OF A SLOW MOVING VEHICLE OVER RUNNING THE FULL WIDTH OF THE STUD. The stud is now ready for exposure to traffic. ON NO ACCOUNT SHOULD THE STUDS BE APPLIED TO WET SURFACES.

NOTES Application onto surfaces recently salted will require thorough cleaning before laying commences.

The Self Adhesive System meets the requirements of BS M873 Pt 4 1987 and have been fully

approved by the Department of Transport Scottish Office for use on all types of roads.

This statutory approval is a legal requirement, and substitution of any of the system components

is not only illegal but will breach any contractual arrangements with the specifiers.
